This is a ball handle reel marked 3-1/2 on the bottom of the foot. Someone suggested to me it might be a Vom Hofe. A couple of the inside plates were scratch numbered; probably to keep them from getting mixed up. The pinion gear and the inside plate are both stamped with 10. I am unfamiliar with the click mechanism of this type. When you turn the knob on the front of the reel you either engage it or vice versa. It is made similar to some of the Shake reels. Any help will be appreciated.

Have you looked at the NY Ball-Handle Reels site in the Members-only section? Should be easy to find another reel with the rotating click button.

Guess What? As you see from the pics I hadn't cleaned the reel yet. I ave now and did a little sanding. I found cross hooks that say Trade Mark under them. It's an A & I.

A&I retailed the reel. The rotating click button is found on Julius vom Hofe and Malleson reels. I would lean toward Julius vom Hofe being the maker.

Also Kopf reels. The rotating click button is found on Julius vom Hofe and Malleson reels.
This reel closely resembles a Marsters/Maker reel in the BH site. Some argue that Marsters didn't make reels, but I would argue that he did.
