I could use some advice with this Shakespeare spincast.

Hi friends. I’m working on a Sears 240 I believe is a Shakespeare 1767(?). I have worked or many spincast reels but this one has me stumped. All the parts and washers seem to be there and in working order but I have encountered a problem. When I tighten the star drag, it tightens the main gear with it. The tighter the drag, the stiffer the crank. The main gear tightens into the case like a sandwich. I have worked on a few star drag spincast reels without this problem. The reel is not usable like this and I cannot find a schematic either. If anyone has any advice, I’m all ears!

Without seeing what parts you have it's hard to give you any advice, but here's a schematic for the 1767. Hopefully it will help some. If you click on it it will enlarge. You can also enlarge the enlargement.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Thank you Tom. It appears all the parts are there. I’ll try to post more pictures.
