Wm Shakespeare Jr

Post by Midway Tommy D »

Not looking for a value, just a generality. Would a Wm Shakepeare Jr Model 1912 Style B nickle plated in well used & worn condition be desirable or collectable?
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Tommy,
I think it would be -- or at least it should be -- desirable for a new collector or a collector on a constrained budget if it is functionally OK. It won't have near the value as one that is in nice shape. They are a cool reel with a unique design. And, they are a bit scarce.

If it has all its original parts and pieces and not too badly abused it’s still a nice collectible. But buggered-up screws, plier marks, etc. might put it in the ‘parts reel’ category. Another common problem is gouged worm screws from not being timed properly. If the LW is in good condition it could be the most valuable part of the reel.

I assume that since it is a 1912 model it has a double knob handle. A 1910 model with a counter balance handle will bring quite a bit more.. If the 1912 is fully functional and the line guide works perfectly it should be worth $100-125.
Collect mostly Ky style reels; Meek, Heddon, Horton, Pflueger Redifor and Worth, etc.
