Small reel "Ideal" Pflueger??

Post by robbitobbi »

Bought a small reel a couple of weeks ago, marked Ideal but no trademark on it. Foot is stamped 60, so I assume its a 60 yards model.
Seller said it likely should be a Pflueger reel. I couldn't find any hint in literature though. Anybody out there who can help? Here it is: Image
I can send a .zip file with more pics on demand.
Cheers
Robbi

Robbi...Look at the shape of the bottom of the foot and then go to this site http://www.oldreels.com/identification1.htm and check out the different shapes.

Robbi,

Welcome aboard. As you check the above web site, you may also view the Montague foot design. Chances are your reel will have the folded ear shape, as I have several IDEAL reels similar to yours. Shakespeare also used the name IDEAL on a Model 1930, but I do not believe it was made in the vintage of your reel.

Hope this helps.

Dale.

Looks like your reel has an oil cap. See if it fits any reel marked Pennell. Montague made many, many similar reels for Pennell; hence, some parts interchange. If your oil cap fits ok, it was probably made by Montague.

Robbi,
For starters, welcome to ORCA!
I think the answer to your question can be best answered here:
http://www.fishing-reel-research.org/Montague.htm
Our own Mr. Phil White has done a great job with that site, with lots more to come. He also has information on his www.oldreels.com site that gives great Montague history here:
http://www.oldreels.com/montague.htm
Again, lots of great information on-line.
I'm sure you will find yourself reading about more than Montague once you've clicked on either of those two sites. In fact, a check of our member web sites is something I recommend all our members to do from time to time. I see more have been added recently.
*From the ORCA home page, click on Member Services, then on Member Websites*
Happy reading, and it's great to have you here!

IMO the most prolific reel manufacturer of all, from high quality to junk,
Especially when you consider the many private label reels they made;
Pennell, etc., etc.,
They all had their niche however, and have made many collectors happy.
