Re: Top 5 antique tackle online discussion forums
There are lots of Facebook Groups that host discussions about old tackle. Facebook pages do too to a lesser extent. Many Groups are invitation only. Some are hidden or "secret" known only to invited members. Open Facebook in a browser and try searching for "tackle", "reel"(s), "lure"(s). Some of the hosts and many of the users are very knowledgeable but there are lots of crackpots lots of fake accounts. It is hard to know who is who unless you know the people behind the accounts. We have the same issue with some Reel Talk users. Here is an image showing about 80% of Groups where I am registered. I am also an Admin of group and a page in addition to the ORCA Facebook page.

I enjoy the Fiberglass Flyrodders Foum. It’s a good group of folks who generously share their knowledge and are respectful. Just like Reeltalk!

Re: Top 5 antique tackle online discussion forums
yeah, and the archives are working well on FFR now that photobucket relaxed their block
Bill Sonnett occasionally shows up and adds nice color to the "Another Spin on Glass" page
Also, no prohibition there - we frequently discuss cane, graphite, bait and spinning tackle
1914 FE Thomas
classic Lew's on contemporary glass
though glass + flyrod is definitely the major bent (1960 Harnell 652)
contributors there are 14 to 90

I spend quite a bit of time on the Classic Fly Rod Forum, which is mainly (strictly) about bamboo. They do have a reel sub-forum, as well, which concerns fly reels.

Facebook is growing with vintage sites for fishing reel. There is The Vintage Reels Page and the Vintage Penn Reels page.
Facebook can get very specific but I find it a very personal and interesting place. The software is also super enabling instant photo sharing and great messaging.
Have to be careful though, it can become addictive.
