Champion Sports "Fly Champ"

Post by Jason »

I think these reels are marked "patents applied for". Does anyone know if a patent was ever issued and what the patent number is?

Thanks

The reason I asked about the patent is because I found this well made aluminum reel that looks similar to the fly champ. I'm wondering if Clem Dove was associated with the Champion Sports reel.

Well, Clem certainly went to school off the Fly Champ design, but I think his reel was better made...nice work! Looks like he didn’t replicate the brake tension setting (?) that looks to control tension on the gear?

Is this like the old Re-treev-it fly reels?
Does the finger trigger rotate the spool?
