Great Reel. We will have to come up with some kind of event at the National to test it. Just had Dave Roberts (ACA Secty) over at my house for casting practice. He will be helping to run the tournament, will ask him for ideas.

Matt, what type and length of bamboo rod and line do you recommend for the distance event? Thanks.

I’m happy to report that today Dr. Elder sent me a few “teaser” photos of a second, smaller tournament casting reel he is building for me. I’m sure John will share the details of machining the aluminum spool, but here are a few preliminary photos:

Is this one freespool also? I do think freespool reels are a bit more accurate, but at our level it probably does not make a huge difference. I have some slo motion videos of some really good casters doing accuracy casting, I should find a way to post them.

Matt, yes, plan is to let the spool ride free until engaged for line retrieve... still deciding on mechanism to wed with main gear. Will see what i can come up with.

And yes, BB , i should quit while i’m behind! :bash:
