I Would Like to Buy This Gold Reel - Yeah, Right, I Wish

Post by RonG »

Has anyone seen any info on what happened to this reel and rod shown in the 1929 Abbey & Imbrie Catalog? That reel has to be the ultimate find.

With the stock market tanking, I'm accepting offers at this time.

I would like to find out who made that reel and the rod...good find, Ron.

Here is what Dr.Todd said about it:

And this from 2008:

Here is what George Black wrote at page 38 of his 2006 book, Casting a Spell (I could not find the 1875 Forest & Stream article):

There were five 1893 rods made and five gold reels to go with them. I've spent 15 years tracking them down and I've managed to trace two of them; one of them up to 1955 and one of them overseas. I once had an "in" to see if it was still stored in a palace in Great Britain, but he has since passed away before any information was sent my way.

My suspicion is two sets still exist. The other three probably lost to time.
