Beetzel Washington D.C. address 1719 K. St. NW

Post by NJFisherman »

The picture below shows the inside of a reel case that had a Washington D.C. marked Beetzel reel inside. As you can see (if you turn your head), it is marked "Redifor Rod & Reel Co. as 1719 K. St. NW Washington D.C.". I had this out and recalled the prior owner telling me about a Reel News article that mentions the DC Beetzel but no known address. I would post the 1998 article by Frank Stewart but for some unknown reason my pictures are being rotated 90 degrees.

The Uptons lived at Stoneleigh Court, an upscale apt. building in DC.

The building was at the corner of Connecticut Ave. and L Street, a block from K St. Address recording was fairly sloppy in them thar days, so I believe that the K St. address refers to the Uptons' location at the time. The Stoneleigh building address may have been denoted by various numbers, and, for all I know, the building property may have stretched as far as K St. The Redifor address in Warren had been the same as George's law office.

Here's a 1921 ad showing Washington address.

Richard has my article on Redifor that cites Frank's company history and will explain why the Uptons went to D.C., dragging Redifor along.

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to other updates on the Redifor story!

The ad Ron posted above was probably published shortly after the Uptons' move to D.C. Here is another (1922) that includes the K Street address. Note that the company name has changed, too.

While we're focused on Redifor, here's another pop quiz. What's this ad about?

I would guess its just some nonsensical, weird wordsmithing in an attempt to get your attention i.e. advertising?
