John - my vote on your little reel is Gayle, maybe the little cousin to this salmon reel:

Is the foot attached with pins or screws? I'm betting pins.
With the known association to Mills (think Intrinsic), I think you have an early fly reel from Gayle.

One more, the Redifor, an example acquired from the late Brian Purrone.

And an early Meisselbach Rainbow w/ original picture box.

And a Gayle Simplicity in the original round box.

Interesting, Jim.

Playing devil's advocate ...the stepped foot on John's reel and the bearing cap aren't very Gayle like.

I have no guess myself ...but I think I've seen that stepped foot before.

[t
Been so long since I posted wasn't sure I could even do it anymore. I have consigned about 525 reels from my collection to Langs. 50 plus Rods and some misc. items. Probably have abou 250 in my 12X24 Mini Home in Tn. Many are newer reels, and a few still left in Indpls. These two brass Dam Quick reels Made in Germany were given to me by old friend Jacob V. at The Fort Lauderdale Natls. a few years back. Still have most reels I have been given or bought from members. Hope to make it to The Frankfort Natls. if we survive.

Hunkering down has certainly sped up the restoration process for these formally roached out bamboos. One left to wrap and then there's gonna be a marathon varnish session.

Sorry to keep putting sidebars in my thread but here’s a comparison of the little unk RP reel and my Leonard bimetal; Both frames are bronze; very similar reels, only the unk has a clicker lacking from the Leonard and the unk has a CB handle. The major difference is thatthe Leonard has a NS insert and the unk has HR ... in other words, they are identical except for all the differences :D

But relative to Dean’s question about the stepped foot, these appear to be the same foot only the Leonard has the JVH hole in the middle:

Thanks, Mike. Few of these are rare, some even common by themselves, but are scarce when found in their original package.

A few favourite British, American and Canadian reels (and or combos) in my collection, shown in no particular order. (If anyone knows what goes in the box marked Leighton Bait Casting Reel, I am still looking):

I can show these but need help on the tell part

Fly reel that looks ocean city-ish but way too well made with screwed foot, handle and pawl spring in addition to the agate line guide. No makers mark. Spool press fit and held in place by spring loaded ball bearing that runs on the shaft channel. Looking for help on this one

Early HR/GS bay reel 150 yd. Looks pflueger to me but no markings other than yardage marking on bottom of foot. Looking for confirmation and possible date

That’s a healthy chunk of awesomeness right there guys. “Reel basking” on this site might be my favorite exercise today!
