Shakespeare c1942 Style 1977 Sportcast Unique Reel Foot/Attachment

Post by rheadlouis »

Two photos of a Standard Shakespeare Sportcast style 1977 (GJ) reel and matching system component rod, model A1114-L-5 ½, which I am trying to identify. Please note the unique reel foot and associated attachment system. I have reviewed the 1941, 1942 A and B, 1942 Appendix and the 1947 Shakespeare catalogs and cannot find this setup.

Although the rod is marked 5-1/2-inches it is actually 5-feet-1-inches and yet the tip does not appear to have been shortened.

Any information as to what this reel (and rod as a combo) might be is greatly appreciated.

Dr. Todd Larson will be able to tell you all about that setup. I have Mr. Shakespeare’s GK 1980 Professional Sportcast reel with that same reel seat, and Dr. Todd has identified the same setup on reels at the Casting Hall of Fame.
