shakespeare merimac #1947 reel

Post by bob121349 »

Hi-need to find any info about this particular reel --especially the year it was made because I can't find any date code on the reel and can' seem to google any info on it either. Further info provided if needed; pictures too. Thanx. Bob

The Merrimac was from 1933, I believe. I don't have the 1933 catalog to be sure. Production for this reel was from Aug.26,1932 until Feb.22,1933, a very narrow window. I've never seen one.

I looked at all? the 1930's Shakes catalogs in the ORCA Online library but could not find it. It only appears in the Shakespeare Reel List as "#1947 MOD 33". Other Shakespeare reels in that list show the typical 2 letter date codes next to the model number. I double checked both "old" and "new" versions of the Shakespeare Reel List in the library but entries for this model are identical.

Bob, please post pictures.

Hi Paul-thanx for your response. The item is being shipped to me at this time--so pictures will be sent ASAP, but in the mean time there are good pics of it on e-bay at "vintage fishing reels Shakespeare"', item #372853028351 (I took a chance on this one!). Thanx again. Bob.

WOW! You got a great deal on one of the hardest to find Shakespeare level wind reels (and the box too)! The one I have does not have a Model number on it. Of the two Monitor 1950 reels I have (very similar manufacture dates and of bakelite as well), 1 does have "Model 32" on the bottom of the stamped foot.
