Cleaned this spinning reel, spins like a top.
However, could not get the spool off after removing the drag knob.
Oh well, lets put some line on and go fishing.
Went to set the drag, and I can barely turn the spool by hand.
Should the spool just pull off the reel, or is there something I am missing about this reel?
Thanks.

Yes, it should easily pull straight off the front. It is probably corroded onto the main shaft. Could be galvanic corrosion or old stiff grease that turned to bees wax.
Remove the drag knob, remove the sideplate and remove the screw from the oscillation block into the main shaft. Then pull the main shaft straight out the front. You can try warming the shaft & spool with a hairdryer and it may soften the grease if that is the culprit. If it's galvanic corrosion you can put a little vinegar in the recess where the main shaft enters the spool and let it set for a couple of hours and then try to remove the main shaft, or you can drill a hole in a block of wood bigger than the click gear and slide it over the shaft from the rear, place the main shaft and block loosely in vice or something similar and with a hammer tap a second block on the spool end of the shaft until the spool breaks loose. Once you get it off remove the drag washers and thoroughly clean them, the spool hole and the main shaft. You should burnish the main shaft and both sides of all metal drag washers with steel wool or a green scotch brite pad.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
