Shakespeare (Inglis) Ultra Supereel 1985 Model FK

Hi All
I wondering if anyone could help me please, we have recently stumbled across this reel which my other half has owned for over 30 years.

We believe it dates back to 1940's/50's as we think 1985 is the model number.
Would anyone be able to shed anymore light on it for us or give us on approximate estimate of it's value?

We're based in UK and so far we've been unable to find anyone who knows anything about it.

We have no idea how or why it's ended up in the UK, it was second hand when my other half was given it many years ago.

From the 1951 INGLIS Shakespeare catalog. The No.1985 Ultra Supereel was the second-highest grade offered.

Are they collectable at all?

I would say yes, as they don't show up everyday in the U.S., either.

I still have room in my box of Inglis reels.

Unfortunately we don't have the box for it, so this will probably impact on the value.

Many collected reels do not have their original boxes. As Mark indicated, they are not commonly found in the US and overseas. Perhaps someone will be interested in buying. All of us pay extra for shipping And other fees when we buy online. There is a for sale section here too.

Does anyone have any idea of what it would be worth without a box if I put it up for sale?

It depends entirely on condition. Supply a couple photos if you can. If yours isn't in pristine condition, we're not talking about much value.

It seems to be a beautiful example, except for a previous owner's initials scratched onto the faceplate, which really hurts the value. I normally don't do appraisals on this forum. Perhaps someone else has a good idea and can better help you.
