Penn Senator Gen 1's
Penn Senator Gen 1's
Hi
I feel very privileged to have finally put together a full collection of Penn Gen 1' Senators.
I was missing a 14/0 and eventually sourced one through member 54Bullseye,John Taylor.
I thank John for making his fine reel available for me in order to fill the gap.

Re: Penn Senator Gen 1's
Wow...Nice! That's only the second green senator I've ever seen. If it came from the North West it's possible it was my reel. Nice collection sure it didn't happen overnight!

Wanted Ultra rare salt water reels including big game as well as unknown rare surf reels!
Re: Penn Senator Gen 1's
Hi Nick
Thank you.
The green senator was sourced from a collector here in Aussie.
It is not a genuine Penn colour,I believe that he had the green and yellow one in the same pic painted .
They were acquired when I first started collecting and was unaware of the vast models and colours that Penn manufactured.
I was pleased that I did not pay much for them, very well done though.

Well Bob your Penn collection looks great and I am glad I helped fill the void ! I also like the Everol's I have a bunch of those to they are a very well made reel ! Here is one of the first 100 Everol's made according to present owner of Everol made from 1958 to 1962. It's a two speed that you have to remove handle from reel and put in another hole to switch gears. It also has a separate free spool lever 'the chrome lever" from drag adjustment lever. Also you will see you move drag lever in opposite direction to adjust drag from the newer reels. I bought the reel for $100 from a guy in Venezuela off eBay and had the reel in under a week. Nice stuff Bob !!!! John

Hi John
Thanks for your comments.
Your Everol is a model that I have not seen here in Aussie, lovely looking reel.
They are indeed a quality reel and underestimated I believe.

Re: Penn Senator Gen 1's
Interesting to see these collections of first gen reels happening. When Ray and I first became aware of the early configurations Senators, it seemed like it was fairly unknown. Ray and I kept it a secret until we had our collections of first gen reels complete, then I slowly started talking about first gen reels and added them to my first Penn book. Funny. I still have my collection but never have found a 16/0 at a price I was happy with. Maybe someday. Glad Penn collecting has matured the way it has. Check the date on the photo. That is when I completed the set, three years before the release of the Blue Book.

Ha! I used a 14/0 that belonged to a friend as a model for the first wooden reel I made:
Later on, I started to make another for someone using a later 12/0 as a model and realized that I had somehow built the first one backwards! Couldn't understand how I could have done something so stupid

I remember that wood Senator. Think it made the front cover of the Reel News. Amazing work!! Did not realize it was a first generation reel you copied. That's funny.Ha! I used a 14/0 that belonged to a friend as a model for the first wooden reel I made:

That's how I met you! You had it set up at the first old Las Vegas lure show at the Imperial Palace. I was thinking who was this crazy guy that did such an absolute beautiful job!john elder wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 8:51 am Ha!
