Two other 1882 patents associated with CF Orvis

Post by Mike N »

Most reel collectors know of the 1874 patented Orvis perforated fly reel. But there are two patents issued 8 years later, in the summer of 1882, also associated with CFO:

The famous June 6, 1882 “spring plate” reel seat assigned by Hiram Eggleston to CFO:

Then, a month later, the July 24, 1882 screw on walnut cap for Orvis’ rod tubes, typically made of birch, beech or spruce.

Great stuff Mike, those rods and tubes have a great vintage look and heritage.
