Name those reels- win a prize

Post by Jason »

I love looking at old patents drawing so I made this collage. Do you think you can name them all? I'll send a mystery tackle box to the first person who can correctly post the inventors name or patent numbers that matches these drawings. Some are duplicates and some of the images have been rotated. Click on the image to view it in full size.

Good luck!

Well, if you can’t even get Steve V. to nibble, I doubt the rest of us are brave enough to take a bite...

Hey Jason, that's a cool looking collage. Thanks for showing how to do a word search in the patent database. If I didn't have the patent number, I was out of luck in looking for a patent.

We have a winner! I thought that Devine rod patent might stump you guys but it was in the patent search results.

I primarily used Steve's latest reel patent book and Mary Kefover Kelly's rod patent book to find them. I recognized the Monnier's Bell alarm reel from the actual photo our Mr. Vernon has in his book, otherwise that one would have stumped me. Thanks for the game Jason!

Yet another reason why Jim is ORCA’s most recent Honorary Life Member. Well-done.

Congrats, Jim...and thanks for the mention. I hope you and your competitors noticed that all of the drawings shown include ball handles. Collager-in-Chief Jason has generously agreed to take over the long-dormant ball-handle project, which was begun years ago in an attempt to create a database that would help collectors identify the gazillions of ball-handle reels that are unnamed or are marked only with retailer names. We're hoping that folks will be willing to add to the "library" of BH reels with photos of their acquisitions.
On another note: Although patent drawings may show reels with ball handles, in many cases production models of the inventions were constructed differently. The Boardman reel is an example.
