What a gift from a friend started...

Post by Mike N »

A few years ago Jim S. sent me an unexpected gift in the mail, a vintage wooden line spooler:

The spooler piqued my interest in thread spools, which, with the help of John Etchieson and a few others, has turned into this:

It’s a neat, new and reasonably priced vintage fishing collectible to search for between reel acquisitions

Hey Mike, that's a nice collection. Whenever you get so many that you can't lift them, that's when you know you're done. So, keep looking. There's more treasurers out there.

Very nice, Mike! They did such an elaborate job with labels on spools that they are just a natural for collecting! And i think we could do a whole thread just on ‘gifts from Jim S!’

Very nice Mike.

That collection came a long way in a short period of time.

Thanks, John, Ron, Dean & Mark,

This collecting thing of of ours is all about sharing information.

Now, in these strange times & between collecting our beloved vintage reels we should really appreciate and collect these hooks & flies and silk lines and paper ephemera, etc. For the first time in 3 decades I feel like I’m beginning to really understand vintage tackle and what fishermen in those days considered essential in their wooden tackle box.
