Ok folks . What`s the cans and can nots of the Orca derby.

Might get into the pier action , Just have to know what type of rods ,reels,lines and types of lures and or baits hooks and such to enter.

It’s pretty small-time, Bud! Rules are pretty loose but pre-1940 would be most fun. Brian will have some bait to impress the mackeral :D you can try some assorted early jigs…. Or age some Squidme jigs for the occasion!

Since some of us in the eastern US are flying in, would appreciate if someone is bringing a wad of rods for potential usage. We probably have no shortage of reels.

If the same rules, I think it allowed up tackle up to 1960
and winners were detarmined by total measured length (imperial units lol). In 2014, we caught a lot of mackerel so I was busy running around measuring 6" or so fish. There are bigger things lurking, however. Clay Hood hooked something with dead mackerel that smoked his Penn bay sized reel (probably much to the horror of today's Penn fans lol). I would recommend small barbless circle hooks if you do use mackerel dead or alive as I suspect there can be a pesky seal or two around.
