I got a set of vintage casting reels from my dad (2 Pfluegers, a Shakspeare and a Ranger). I had great success cleaning and lubing them until I worked on the Ranger. It has a brass flange with a leather pad (I assume a backlash break) that I can’t figure out how to attach. I also ended up with a set of tiny washers that I have no idea where they go.
I’m kicking myself because it was the most pristine of all the reels and now I feel I’ve messed it up.
The reel is a Ranger Prize Winner “Gold Medal” 77.
I’m wondering if anyone might have a schematic for it?

ORCAn Dr Todd Larsen wrote a nice article about the Ranger reel company
http://fishinghistory.blogspot.com/2007 ... s.html?m=1
And i note there is one for sale for cheap on ebay at the moment. If it is similar to yours, i would recommend buying it and using its guts as a model to reconstruct yours.

Hi John
Yes I read the Ranger article. Very interesting.
Thank you for the suggestion on eBay. I grabbed it and will do as you suggest. Lesson learned…in the future I’ll go slow and take pictures.
Cheers.

Finding the schematic will take some creative searching. I tried to locate one and couldn't find it. Added that to the mission list. Did find Dr. Larsen's article and enjoyed reading that.
