Re: Has anyone seen a New Record Casting Reel
Like Mark says, this reel is a better quality Montague reel. It's made of German silver rather than the nickel plated brass that's seen on most reels from this period. It's distinguished from other later Montague German silver reels in that it has 4 screws securing the head plate to the frame rather than just two. Your reel has also been found with many other marking. The markings usually have a catchy name or the name of a sporting goods or hardware store. Below are ones similar to yours marked "Gus Habich", "Kentucky 3", "Wilkinson, Chicago", "The Minnesota" and "Jas.L. Van Uxem, Chicago, Geneva" with jeweled end caps.

I was wondering if anyone has actually seen or knows of another with this same stamp.

Yes, I've seen a couple of them over the years. Very nice reels.

Good to know, I find these reels interesting.
Re: Has anyone seen a New Record Casting Reel
This is a 4 screw Montague as stated, sold by Sears, Roebuck & Co. in the pre-1910 era. Nice reel, they show up rarely. New Record was stamped on a number of different style Montague reels, this was the highest end model.

Thank you for the specific information on this particular marking. Didn't realize that it was that early a reel.
