Coxe Coronet?

Post by Wayne B. »

I just acquired a Coxe 25 that was described as a Coronet. It is definitely an aluminum reel, but I don't see Coronet on the reel tail-plate, foot, or box. I don't see the sharp ridge on the spool. Is this a transition reel? Frankenreel?

Bill Sonnet's presentation on the Coxe 25 series at the 2020 virtual national show may answer some of the questions. The Coxe 25 came in many different versions, including aluminum. If the reel is a later version and not marked Coronet then it may just be one of the many variations. Bill covers all the variations. The big question is, can you post a photo of the reel and the foot? What is stamped on the reel foot?

Matt, I have a new computer and we are not getting along yet. When I figure it out I will send pics. Not a problem with posting, just a problem trying to find out where the pics are. The foot says Bronson Reel Co. but no model number or mention of Coronet.

Unfortunately, Bill's presentation was done pretty much extemporaneously. There is no hard copy.

Pretty simple on this one, This is a first-year (1951) Coronet 25-N. Only year that reel came with a balsa arbor. The tail plate says to me they were using up leftovers from the previous (german silver) 25's.
I love to get old reels, work on them until they run as smooth as silk and the take them fishing using pre-1960 plugs, mostly surface fishing for Largemouths after dark.
