Always a kick to learn that your collection is better than a president's, eh?Two of the rods are identified as being made by Shakespeare and South Bend. Only one reel is identified as Shakespeare. The collection is modest and does not include equipment made by high-end manufacturers of the time; in many regards, the collection reflects the humility of the president referred to as “Silent Cal."

Sounds to me like Cal knew good tackle when he saw it!

And probably caught just as many trout as he would have if he used high end tackle. Hmmmm...sound fiscal example from a POTUS? I would think that the White House would have received many nice "fishing" gifts from all over the world that the President would have had to leave behind. These would be registered items and probably searchable.
Re: Cal of the wild
Was Heddon’s White House Angler reel made to commemorate Coolidge or Hoover? Maybe the silent click version was for Cal? Ooops! My mistake. I’m thinking of the Snarl-free version.
