Oldest ORCAn?
Oldest ORCAn?
Dare you tell your age? I claim to be the currently oldest ORCAn. Born the year the Star Spangled Banner was declared the National Anthem (you will have to Google that most likely). Also a Charter Member of ORCA. How old are you?...

Here's a version that predates even you antediluvian types (mid-1850s arrangement).

Ha! Also 41 here, which feels old to me. I suspect that some Googling would confirm that I am not even in the running...

Only 41? I thought this was organization for old reel collectors. False advertising.

I'm too lazy to Google, but I'm 86 years young.
If we concentrated on the really important things in life there would be a shortage of fishing tackle

What is that message that appears as my avatar? Who is invading our message board?

Phil, check your settings, it might be your computer that has been assaulted and not the message board...??? I'm 62 and feel most of them, but am quite content these days....Reel Geezer wrote:What is that message that appears as my avatar? Who is invading our message board?

Geezer, please check your profile settings. If your Avatar is set up as a link to an external URL, that is where the problem lies. You can replace the compromised link or upload a pic. If your image is a file inside the ORCA system please let us know.Reel Geezer wrote:What is that message that appears as my avatar? Who is invading our message board?

That link was on this board, in my profile, not on my computer. I have deleted it.

Phil still fishes 5 days a week and unloads and loads up his boat each day. I think he is getting younger. Must be that he is around Fudge so much.

Re: Oldest ORCAn?
Nice rack! There were five (count them, five!) bucks in my back yard a few weeks ago-one really nice but nothing in the class of that one John. Since they cleaned out my impatiens (to the ground) felt like making one of them a trophy. We see does in small groups frequently, but never saw bucks running like a pack of coyotes before. Some in velvet. Interesting animals.

Happy to see all the “young” (at least at heart) guys out there, but some truly young blood is important for the future of this cause, to keep these reels in circulation ! How about the youngest ORCAN?

Re: Oldest ORCAn?
My son Paul is 41. I know there are much younger. When he was 29, I made him join with me so I would know someone at the Dowagic Convention. First person we met was Bill Muth. He was then and still is a really nice guy. 2nd person we met was John Ganang who told us about Langs of which I knew nothing. He gave me a free catalog. I can still remember sitting with Tim Bahr (RiP), seeing Len Sawisch up dancing on the tables and I thought this is a nice bunch of guys. Met many more and even though we were new, felt welcomed from the start. Was then and still is a great bunch of folks regardless of age. Jon

Don’t apologize John. Didnt offend me one bit. Im actually surprised someone was sooooo offended as to require the picture removal.

Re: Oldest ORCAn?
In this day and age a really big deer is almost a farmed or ranched product. They do not happen by accident and require good habitat management/manipulation, good population control and harvest at just the right time. The same can be said for largemouth and trout. However, we're not so good at managing many types of marine fish yet, especially the pelagics. Sometimes I cringe seeing them killed.
