A reel puzzle
Re: A reel puzzle
Mike, just right-click on the puzzle and left-click on "Save image as..." Then you can print the image. That should solve the problem.
Jason, very cute. And I love the way you squeezed in the little Star Trek reference. Shame you had to omit Brinsmaid.
PS: I'm guessing that the heat wave is keeping you inside a lot, eh?

Re: A reel puzzle
Thanks much for posting this, Jason! Please keep them coming... made me go do some homework to learn.... and re-learn some reel factoids. Thanks go to Steve Vernon for giving us such a fantastic Reel Encyclopedia! I just wish i had a photographic memory... or for that matter, ANY memory!

Uh-oh! Better check VB on a couple of them. Never try to do crossword puzzles while driving or operating milling machines.

Re: A reel puzzle
If it fits, that's close enough. I suppose if there were more words then we would have to be more specific.
I used this website if anyone want to make a harder one.

Re: A reel puzzle
The New Jersey maker had me confused - isn't it Cozzone? I knew the 1856 maker had to be Warrin, but the A didn't fit if the Jersey maker was Cozzone.
Re: A reel puzzle
Leave it to me to misspell one of the answers. I give up. I will also accept VamHofe as a correct response.

Re: A reel puzzle
No worries Jason - I had fun doing the puzzle! And, you are far from alone when it comes to last name spelling variations, in addition to what Steve posted above, check out what the Pettengill family had to deal with (this is direct from the genealogy book authored by John Mason Pettengill and Charles Pettengill)
Or, you could have asked Willim Billinghast, or William Rillinghurst as the 1859 issue of Scientific American called him!

Re: A reel puzzle
Gym hit the nale on the hed. Beginning with George Snyder/Snider/Schneider, folks have been varying reel-related names forever (and non-reel-related names, too, of course). In my own words (pg. 342), "[R]ealizing it was less expensive than collecting Vom Hofe reels, I began to collect spellings of the family name in city directories. To date, the list includes Van Hofe, Van Hofer, Van Holfe, Vomhof, Vom Hof, Vomhofe, Vom Hofe, Vom Hoff, Vom Holf, VomHoofe, Vonhof, Vonhofe, and Von Hofe. Researchers should persevere."you are far from alone when it comes to last name spelling variations
The moral of this story is that there are no wrong answers for Jason's spiffy puzzle.
