Help with a patent

I am trying to locate info about the July 24, 1883 patent noted on the cap of a vintage Orvis rod tube. I’m not having any luck and would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Look at US Patent 201845 for a "Bottle Case"

Paul, thanks a million. I did not make that connection, but that’s likely the one for the rod tube, as well.






Now to figure out the connection or patent assignment between J. Davis and C.F. Orvis...

Looks like something that would carry bottles of nitroglycerin, whenever that was invented.

That explains the "paint" on the tubes.
