WANTED: Reels Marked "X.L." or "I.X.L."

Post by Teal »

Hi y'all,

Looking for any trade reels marked "X.L." or "I.X.L." for an article I am writing for the Reel News. They should be older trade reels, and this may not be the only marking on the reel, although all the ones I have seen are only marked with these letters.

EVen if they are not for sale please email me as I would like to see a picture.

Thanks!

Any clue as to what type of reel? NLW, CB handle? etc. Thanks.

Sorry...these would be older trade reels, the ones I've seen are non-level wind but it is certainly possible level wind models exist marked XL or IXL. Since they are trade reels they could be made by just about anyone, from Hendryx to Montague to everyone in between. Date ranges from 1890-1930 so that is REALLY opened ended. Sorry I can't be more specific...

Hope someone out there has one!

Thanks!

Don't have any of the reels. I have only ever seen one. But I am looking forward to the article, even if it is just to find out what X.L. stands for!

Hi Don,

Just out of curiousity, was it an "X.L." or an "I.X.L." that you saw?

It was a 60 yard X.L., looked like it was made by Union Hardware. It was earlier this year. Sorry, I have no photos & it was in poor condition.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for bringing it to my attention...darn. Drats. Rats. Got your PM about a day after the auction ended. What a bummer.

Anyway its nice to know that others exist out there. I did run across another at Nationals but the guy wanted sick money for it and I wasn't willing to pay 3 figures for it.

Cheers,

Todd

Don't know if you already had this, but found an I.X.L. casting reel listed under the Diamond Brand reels in my 1935 Shapleigh catalog.
