I finally got the Kosmic Reel cleaned!!

Post by toma »

Some of you may remember from a month ago my old Kosmic Reel that was in pretty bad shape. Well, thanks to everyone's suggestions and a lot of elbow grease I finally got it finished. The reel works very well but I think I'll keep it on the shelf a while. I need to download some additional pics of the inside workings but here are a few of the finished job.

Nice! that braking system is really unique to anything I've seen, with matching spool to act on. Would really be great to learn a bit of history about that one!

Your reel "The Kosmic" was made by Montague City Rod Co. "The Kosmic" was a brand name of H.A. Whitmore & Co. and the reel appears in their 1903-6 catalog. It came in sizes from 60 yd. to 300 yd. From looking at yours I would say it was a salt water model.

Nope - all I have is the "reels only" section. The brake could have been made by someone else and added.
