I use Bel-Ray Waterproof grease. Cost me 9.99 for 16 ounces. Ive serviced hundreds of reels since buying this container and have barely put a dent in it! It will last years and years and years. Bought it at local motorcycle/ATV dealer.

Lubriplate Aero. $5 for a 6" tube. http://www.lubriplate.com/Products/Mult ... /Aero.aspx
I like that it has a soft texture and isn't sticky or stringy. Parts move easily without drag.
I can't say that it's the BEST, but it's the best I've tried.

Chuck! Also be sure to read the list of lubricants and the great article on reel lubrication by Ed Scharf in the Reel Restoration and Repair manual prepared and sold by ORCA... when it arrives :-]

Hot Sauce grease remains softest the longest of any grease I have used.

Re: GREASE..
I've used Super Lube Synthetic for years and swear by it's results. I've had it in cleaned unused reels for 5 or 6 years and within in 4 or 5 turns of the crank it's as smooth and free as the day I serviced the reel. It doesn't get stiff in cold weather and never hardens or gets thin and oily.
