I have many wooden and bamboo big game rods. Some of them look dry, including some wraps. Is there something I should put on them like pledge-type light moisturizer ?
Thanks orcans.
Maintainance of vintage bamboo & wooden rods?
Re: Maintainance of vintage bamboo & wooden rods?
Definitely not pledge. You want to rub them down with an oil and let the wood take up as much as it wants. Tru Oil is really good. Also, genuine tung oil, teak oil or plain old linseed oil. These are all slow drying oils that will not feel greasy or trap dust once they cure. The wrappings probably have enough finish on them that they will not darken with the oil. But, to be safe, do a small test spot first.

I use tung oil on my vintage boat rods. On the rods I fish, I give them a wipe with spar varnish if they need it. Rods I take to the river, I also keep waxed.
