Working with a Bluegrass 33 and the sideplate put up quite a battle. Tried all the options- heat/cold, soaking in various solutions, and even Mr Kroll . Even considered slip-joint pliers, but civility prevailed! Looking around for a circular clamp, I considered a radiator clamp, but what of the knurling. I cut a short piece of PVC and roughed up the inside with a file. The pic says it all- the knurling is safe from the pliers! Good Luck with your restorations.

So, did it come off? I'm not sure on the Bluegrass 33, but some of those screw off clockwise.

Yep. Came off with pliers gripping clamp. Your right- or is left- some are R/T/L/L and some R/L/L/T.

You might try using one of the round rubber grippers which is used to open jar tops.
