cleaning old fly reels

Cleaning an old Pflueger 1492 reel that has some corrosion around a screw or so. How do you remove and KEEP from returning? This is what is found on aluminum- Thanks, Bill Gaude

alkalies and soaps make aluminum actively corrode. Chalky white powder is an active aluminum corrosion product. Clay - from whence the metal came.

aluminum passivates in weak acid - the vinegar bath is perfect
