Folks, I bought a couple of old Penn 712Z's that I want to clean up and get back in shape. When I removed the side plates, I found that they had once been packed tight with grease. I hesitate to completely disassemble the reel because I'm not familiar with the reel or the process of taking one all the way down, so I'm wondering if there is something I can use to remove the old grease from the brass gears in their current state of assembly.
Thanks for any suggestions.
