Hi guys,
I'm new to the board, but there is some great information I've been reading as I've lurked for the past few months.
I just acquired a 1934 Penn Sea Ford on ebay for a pretty good deal. It is generally in pretty good shape.
As I turn the wood handle, however, the wood doesn't rotate around the peened stud as the handle goes around its axis.
It feels like some oil would help clean it up, but I don't want to put oil on wood to try and fix it. It looks like there is a fair bit of grime in there as well, but I have no idea how to get that out of there either.
I don't want to dremel out the peened end to try to fix it because there is no way to put it back on and this is an 80 some year old reel.
So, I'm stuck. What do y'all suggest?
Thanks.
Penn wood handle cleaning
I'd like to thank John Elder and Birddog for the pm's.
I soaked the handle in a water/vinegar solution which helped significantly.
The "coup-de-grace," as it were, was a nice long soak in penetrating 3 in 1 oil. I cranked it around a few hundred times while watching some TV.
Now it spins like a champ.
Thanks again.
