Re: Narrow spool reels
Sorry to have waited so long to respond to this post. Most of these reels have been out fishing the last two years but now that winter is coming on they are all at home for a little cleaning and well deserved rest. Seemed like a good time for a group photo. These ten reels are all pre-1951 (german Silver) J A Coxe narrow spool 25N's. The second picture shows four pre-WWII 25 N's turned sideways to show the early style crossbolt. None of these ten reels are Coronets. Have a few Coxe 94C narrow spools around here somewhere--fun to cast but I have only fished with them a few times. The 25N on a 6ft, soft action glass rod from the 1950's is my cup of tea for smaller surface vintage plugs.

Re: Narrow spool reels
Bill,
Nice collection. I got this idea when I saw a "Bingo Lady" with about a dozen of her daubers put on a belt like the old gunbelts from the movies....just put all of those reels on a belt like that for quick changing!! Ha!
My wife and I are currently helping Brian F. relax "on-island", kind of like San Diego.

Re: Narrow spool reels
The #600 series is a tough one - predates the #60's and has the ABL bail. That bail is hard to find because the #600's are the only series that use that size and fisherman ofter took it off (which gave rise to the #60 series) Below are the #600, #660A, and the maroon #600B.
Here are a couple of unusual ones: Marhoff and gold #60

Re: Narrow spool reels
I enjoyed Wild Bill's Coxe #25 N reel photos. For a number of years I used them to fish with, most of the time I fished surface lures from the pre-1940 era. After a while I learned they were a great casting reel, but only until my surface lure hit the water. After that a number of bad things could and often did happen that wasn't much fun. I very seldom fish with my Coxe #25 C or #25 N reels anymore. If you've fished much with them you probably know why.

Can't forget these. The little Brooklure is sometimes overlooked.

Re: Narrow spool reels
Jonathan,
Is that a narrow spool version? The name should be on the end cap on the other end. Thanks. CS

Re: Narrow spool reels
Yes, the Outdoorsman is a regular width spool Castomatic. The Marxman is the narrow spool. I'm working on a Castomatic article right now. Thanks for posting. Colby

Re: Narrow spool reels
Here's a tough little bugger - The Cycloid "Sixty" narrow spool. Just wanted to show something about reels which is a whole lot more fun than the other stuff which is not. Anybody got a narrow spool that has not been shown? Anyone have an extra handle and handle nut for this reel? Thanks a bunch. Colby

Re: Narrow spool reels
Sometimes a machinist can create some unusual reels. There never was a narrow spool Nobby. Nor, out of the few South Bend 1131A examples I have seen, are there any with a delicately cut down ABL bail like the one below. I know how the narrow Marhoff in my collection was created, but I'm not sure how the Nobby level wind screw was modified to make it work correctly. There are no reels to borrow from
(I think).

One tough puppy there! Fun reel. When is a narrow spool reel not a narrow spool reel? Great part of the history of tournament casting. Thanks for showing John. Colby

Re: Narrow spool reels
Aww, Colby, a dagger in my heart! Well I got to see one again anyway. I had the box in my hand once but was unwilling to pay the outlandish price. I figured another would come along soon - not. Great combo you have there! Jim

Re: Narrow spool reels
That didn't take long! I knew you would sniff it out pretty quick. Wish I had two. IF I ever decide to let it go I'll send it your way. Fun stuff. Colby
