4/0 Kovalovsky w/Rubber Sideplates
Here is an unusual little gem I just acquired. It is marked 4/0, and the sideplates are hard rubber. The reel is in excellent condition. What makes it unusual is each sideplate is made of two discs of rubber screwed together. That's why it has so many screws. Anyone ever see a Kov' with HR sideplates?
Cheers,
John

I haven't seen this particular design before. It's a handsome reel.

That is a super Add, John! What is the diameter on that reel? So rare to see anything that small made by him! I guess using the double side plates was likely a case of using materials available and he didn’t have thicker stock. Only other angle i can think of would be possibly to guard against warp, but i think the former is most likely. Still, its surprising that he would want to use all those screws when he could have avoidid it by using micarta.

The sideplates are 4 and 3/16th's inches in diameter, and the inside width between the plates is 2 and 1/4 inches. Here is a shot of the bottom of the foot. Initials look to be AEG or maybe AES, and then SF. Reel is numbered 67. Don't know where, but I seem to remember seeing the intials AES on another reel somewhere.
