Hickory big game rod and early 16/0 owned by Capt Earl Dare

Post by 1badf350 »

I picked this up last week. It is a solid hickory rod, one piece from tip to gimbal. Not sure of manufacturer.
The reel is an EARLY 2nd generation 16/0 Senator with 12/0 drags. The drag star is of unknown origin but it is very well made and high quality

Some of you may remember the amazing Earl Dare inscribed Kovalovsky that Deepfins posted about in this thread viewtopic.php?t=21741

That's a great combo, Chris! I love the set in the rod! Looks like Earl might have put that rod through its paces. So cool to know there is another piece of tackle out there with his name on it.

Now that’s what I call a big game rod and reel combination. Excellent.

The rod appears homemade to me, rather than one from a manufacturer.

Yeah saw it on eBay...out of Rumsen NJ.! Lot of decent tackle came out of the area including a custom set of 18_0 Schaefflers!

Great looking old combo Chris !! I think you should try and find out more about that star drag that is pretty neat !! looks like it's really well made kinda looks factory but I know it's not. And the rod is really cool as well. Nice !!! John Taylor
