An “ephemera” collection organization

Post by Mike N »

We are all looking forward to the start-up of our beloved tackle shows. This month alone I was scheduled to attend and exhibit at the Cabin Fever fly fishing show in Pittsburgh and FATC in Daytona.

Instead, I’ve spent the past few weeks on a much-needed reorganization of all the vintage paper, flies, hooks, and lines I have collected over the years.

I bought a bulk of 3/4” and a few 2” deep Riker glass top cases on eBay for about $90; a $29 (on sale) Brother label printer at Staples, and a few $6 display stand easels at Hobby Lobby....I’m ready for a tackle show!

As usual, you have some great ideas. I was not aware that those cases were available in those deep configurations. I could also benefit from them. I think sometimes my cases are worth more than what is in them.

Heres a thought, don't they make a black tape with White letters? Wonder what that would look like on those cases.

Thanks, Matt. Good idea, so I ordered some black tape with white lettering and will keep you posted.

e·phem·er·a
/əˈfem(ə)rə/

things that exist or are typically used or enjoyed for only a short time.

"there were papers, letters, catalogs, old boxes—all sorts of ephemera"

In fishing collectibles, think flies, hooks, tackle retailer letterhead, envelopes (covers) and catalogs; silk fly and casting line, etc.

Three pre-1900 Orvis catalogs

The three lines in the top row are early freshwater bait casting lines, not fly lines

You can really appreciate the artistry of these items when they are well displayed like this.

Thanks, Ron.

And Matt was right, the black tape with white letters I ordered looks much better on the black cases.

THAT is outstanding. I'm constantly having to move and adjust things but that, what you have to do, is called mobilization! Hats off!!
