Old relics

Post by Paul M »

This is the reel that gave me the collecting bug. I found it in an antique market about 20 years ago and have been collecting reels ever since. I imagine this reel is very, very old... probably made in the 1700's. It has seen better days but I like it anyway. The devon minnow is also pretty old but was acquired more recently.

I think there are some guys around here that would arm-wrestle you for that reel.

Two for One

Post by Paul M »

There were two similar reels in the showcase that day and I got both for the price of one. I am embarrassed to say I talked the dealer into giving them BOTH to me for about $12  .

The second winch was about two-thirds the diameter of this one and in slightly better shape. I regret that I traded it away during a weak moment, along with several other hard to find items like a Peck & Snyder ball handled multiplier.
