Lang's Discovery Auction

Post by Jim Schottenham »

Discovery Auction…

Thousands of lures, many hundreds of reels, hundreds of bamboo rods, dozens of creels, lots of early angling books & new reference books, exceptional fish and animal mounts, framed original art & prints, motors, bobbers, minnow buckets, new/old store stock lures & tackle, hooks, line, flies & fly tying materials, custom & commercial show cases, many contemporary graphite rods, everything imaginable related to fishing or tackle collecting - lots of hunting & archery too! From individual items to huge box lots, antique to store new, and everything in between.

Friday & Saturday, August 8 & 9 - Bouckville, NY - Rt. 20, Cider House Showfield

Viewing: Thursday 7:00pm-9:00pm, Friday & Saturday from 9:00am until the end of the sale

Auction start: 11:00am each day - 2,200 lots to be sold on Friday- 2,303 lots on Saturday

Because of the size of the auction, viewing will be allowed throughout the sale. If you would like to take a break or cannot stay to bid, we will be accepting absentee bids. All items must be paid for and picked up before the end of the auction on Saturday. For more information, please visit the Discovery Auction page on the website: http://www.langsauction.com/Discovery.html

Suggestions: Bring a comfortable lawn chair (chairs are available if you can't), bring packing materials and boxes, get lots of rest before you get there, and make reservations for overnight accommodations now!

And for those that are not familiar with the annual week-long event: It is a series of outdoor shows (big & small, garages, lawns and barns too) along a two mile stretch of Route 20 in central New York's 'antique row' of Mom & Pop and group shops. 1,000+ (nobody really knows how many) antiques and collectibles venders (and locals looking to clean out their attic), set up in numerous hayfields. This is definitely "farm country" for those who are not familiar with the area. These shows start setting up the day after the Discovery auction, opening on a staggered schedule with a new show opening almost every day, and running until the following Sunday (when the collectors and dealers go home and the farmers get their fields back).

These are the very shows where rare lures and reels have routinely surfaced for the past 40+ years. Many of the sellers frequent yard sales/estate sales/auctions in upstate NY all year long just to sell their finds during this week.

It's a scenic drive to this upstate NY location, no matter what direction you come from. The Discovery auction is held in a large permanent pavilion, so it's rain or shine. You'll get to meet lots of fellow collectors, hopefully many from this board. There will be food available, a large free parking area, full service RV and tent camping, Wi-Fi, children and dogs are welcome, and there's excellent fishing within minutes in any direction.

We're sure you'll have a great time and go home with lots of tackle for resale, use or your collection. Hope you can take a few days this summer to attend the largest live audience tackle auction in history. See you soon!
