Re: show her a wrench
Ron,
I was just curious to see if anything was about. I agree it seems way overpriced. It did not sell so others probably agree.
Thank you to you guys for bringing back the memories.

Re: show her a wrench
I am partial to her color choice for handlebar tape ...

I built this ride in 1978. Austro Daimler frame (Reynolds 531), predominantly Campagnolo Nuovo Record components, Super Record crank, Modolo Pro brakes, Mavic GP-40 rims. I went through 6 saddles before I found one that my posterior agreed with... and it no longer does, but I'm too nostalgic to change it.
Dean.

Re: show her a wrench
drop-dead gorgeous.
(your handlebar tape color would match the paint on her bike, and she's backed up with Ambrosio tape in that color yellow - her tape color is the fire engine vitamin-C-p giro yellow that is most common these days)
I may or may not have mentioned with my Moser that I'm rolling on gifted (hand-me-down) cross racing tubular wheels, and of course the gift let me room to mount Very Nice tires.

Spare glued, folded tires and portable tubular lab notwithstanding, and to mention no compromise for speed and incredibly cozy ride, it's still a lot of trouble to mess with tubulars.
So I have a new old set of clincher wheels, 8-speed Record hubs with Moskva rims. I plan to use these for backup with "open tubular" versions of the same tires, Challenge Parigi-Roubaix rear, and Challenge Strada front. I'm sure I'll gain a bit of rolling resistance and weight, a lose a touch of cozy ride, but will also gain a whole lot of convenience.
A person I really respect rides only 1990 Selle Flite saddles, and they're still available.

I'm a hammock saddle fan, though I expect my Anatomica to stretch out by a year of use. I may try a Flite then, or may go with Rivet hammock saddle.
curious, I believe a post above was manhandled from a different thread, where it was making a different point.

You should have ridden it to the National Convention. It was a good one.

Re: show her a wrench
Chuck, for its several and most recent rebuild, my old bike works so much better. Hills are steep here. The old-style triple crankset I added gives me the ability to climb anything, and turned my bike into a century rider (though I'm not there myself). We had a (s. Texas) mid-summer ride of 38 miles that was a 2300' climb, and one mile of it was 6 to 8 degree grade without letup.

The taller chainrings are half-steps (47/42) - they exactly split the step between the rear cogs without any overlaps. The tiny escape chainring (26t) can use all but he smallest 2 of the 6 cogs (the chain would drag the derailleur cage on the smallest cogs, but they also would be overlaps). So I end up with 16 evenly spaced gears covering a very wide range. Between my 2 bikes, it's the one that lets me climb to my house without becoming a biathlete.
Doesn't sound like something you need, and you have a great choice for a city bike there.
What I did with my old bike was make it as versatile as possible for my needs. Keeping old steel rolling is always worth the effort - handmade steel bikes now cost $2000 and way up from there.

Ron: Back in the 70's I was thinking about a bicycle shop. I finally came to the conclusion it would not be wise. I have a brand new Compagnolo dishing tool, never used. Been hanging in the basement for 35 yrs. If you will e-mail me, (address in Reel News) If that's something you could use, I would consider giving it to you. Jon Kring

Re: show her a wrench
Finally got the nerve to look at Brooks Saddles online. Price could give a young man like me heart failure. I've purchased many bikes over the years for less than what a seat costs. I would hope that they are good when you pay that for them?

Re: show her a wrench
Jon,
If you keep peddling up steep hills no need to worry.
It's when you're peddling on the flat or coasting downhill that it pays off. Just think of the $ on Preparation H you'll most likely save with that high dollar cushion.

Re: show her a wrench
Probably correct, but hard to justify spending $150.00 just to ride around the block. I would have as difficult a time explaining that to my wife as I do if I buy another fishing reel.

Nope! Wouldn't know what to do with it. I didn't ever hear if you had an interest in a dishing tool? If you'd like it, send me your address and I'll send it to you. I could not spoke a 10 speed wheel if my life depended on it.

Re: show her a wrench
That's the dust cover puller for a C-Record hub. Putting in new cones and balls. A local bike shop can pull it. I also know where I can special order the tool, but I probably don't want to know the price.

If it cost more than $7.50 I think I'd be making one. Sure doesn't look too complicated to me.I can special order the tool, but I probably don't want to know the price.

Re: show her a wrench
I took the wheel in to my local bike shop and let the artisan there remove the dust covers (gratis - I'm going to take him my tubulars next month for press-out and press-in new cartridge bearings).
Then I put in my new cones and ceramic bearing balls and adjusted the cones on the bike.
Smoke tested my new old refurbished clincher wheelset on the Italian bike yesterday. Hauled the bike up to Fredericksburg to ride with my buddy.
We climbed 1000' over 10 miles - a ride we've made before - moderate exertion, but well within my nominal condition and road gears.
The descent was glorious. A dualie followed us for two miles downhill before we slowed enough for him to pass. And no wonder - turned out we were exceeding the speed limit, which was 40 - on the downhill crests, with him in my mirror, I was maxing out my 75-inch gear before I tucked in to coast. When I checked my gear calculator last night, it was 43+ mph. Even got in a good panic brake near the beginning of the descent when a charging buck split the space between me and my buddy.
