Fake Vom Hofe question
Re: Fake Vom Hofe question
I did hear a story once that people used old bowling balls to restore reels.......

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

Are you suggesting that these posts go beyond the compass of acceptable answers to the original question?

BTW, what was the top-selling conventional reel of all time, what was the first reel with ball bearings, and where did the /0 naming reference come from?

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Normally a sizing sequence would be 3, 2, 1, 0, 00, 000 or alternatively, 3, 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0
I have a JVH marked 2/00. What's with that?

Re: Fake Vom Hofe question
Guys, Thanks for all the great information. I had a concern that there may be some fake Vom Hofe reels out at that time of their catalog release that we should all be aware of running across in todays collecting.

Re: Fake Vom Hofe question
...and an excellent question it was! I hope amongst the hijacks and attempts at humor that some conclusions can be drawn.
I believe that the main conclusion is that yes, there certainly was some concern about copy cats re mechanisms and style. I don't think anyone came up with an example where one of the other makers pretended to be EVH, but the latter wanted to make clear reels without specific EVH markings were not the same quality. I think the conclusion that EVH was trying to keep a clear delineation between their operation and that of JVH is valid....just MHOs.
