those who are near people are friendly, however here in South Florida nurse sharks will fight you to the death once they feel a hook set. They don't really give much head shakes or sudden pulls, it's more of a constant very strong pull. the meet is great.
Interesting, did not know the meat was good. There are so many good food fish in Florida, I suspect no one targets Nurse Sharks. I figured they were strong fighters. I have fished the Keys a few times in my life, I remember seeing Nurse
Sharks swimming around in the canals in Islamorada.

Targeting not really. I had my fair share of encounters with them. They are prohibited in florida state waters. You may catch them but they need to be released right away and keep in the water all times. One hell of a fight though.
Great to see a workhorse reel get some recognition. I used the 349 H commercially for Albacore Tuna when they would not hit the lift pole gear with bait or Squid pick. Used to put 60lb mono on it and my reel back then was improved with a Carl Newell Wahoo special kit which gave it more capacity of line and was lighter by a margin that made it a standard tool on the boat. we had 8 or so on the boat. I owned 3 up to last year that I could say they each caught over 2 tons of albacore each easily over my career maybe more. Fished mine on a Sabre 670 and 670 H and was a fish killing machine. 7/0 hook with a fly lined anchovy when the fish were a little more hook shy on the lift pole. Easy reel to swap drag washers on also and extremely thick washers. To me it had great drag compared to other penns. It has many good memories of being on the stern of the boat with volume of albacore swimming and gobbling baits as we dropped them over the side putting the reel in gear with buttoned down drag and getting a 30 lb. albacore in in a matter of a minute. Back then 1.00 buck a pound and we would put on two tons sometimes this way with three guys. AHH the memories.

Great to hear those Kudo's about such a great reel. Those drags were thick automotive brake lining asbestos material drags. I have heard many people say positive things about that drag system. Another contributing factor to the drag system was the large diameter main gear, combined with the external exchange drag disc system made for a great reel.
The Wahoo conversion made the reel a lighter and wide. That conversion was pioneered in South Africa using the Penn 49 as the base model. Great history there.
