The keys

Post by m3040c »

I will be in Islamarada (sorry), I know I spelled it wrong. a cousin of a friend of mine has a house and a couple of boats there. This is one of those rare times in life where you get to fish for free. I have been there once before and caught a variety of fish, ----, mahi mahi, grouper, black fins, skip jack tuna, lost two Tarpon and I fed a manatee from a garden hose. My friends cousin told me to come back when the fishing improves because my trip was not good in his estimation. I had reached nervanna.

The bearing thing will be continued after my return.

Thanks,
Mike

The Keys Report

Post by m3040c »

Well I survived the trip. Fished the Channel 5 bridge and there are Tarpon all over. We were a party of three and had five fish on, boated and released two, the large one was 150 lbs. plus. Did two offshore trips, one to the reef for yellow tail and one to the West Hump for Mahi and Tuna. I have meat for the summer and am back to reality in New York ready to kill some Striped Bass and Fluke for the grill, if it would only stop raining.

Glad to see that you hooked up with a Silver King. You should have waded aroung Long Key and caught yourself a bone fish for a double while you were there. We used to run the humps for Amberjacks and Tuna too. What a great place. I had the grease hot all week waiting for you to stop by!

Tarpon

Post by m3040c »

Hello Harvey,

I hooked up with two Tarpon and had each one for over fifteen minutes. Lost the first one when the hook pulled out under water, the second one I lost flying through the air, I mean the Tarpon flying of course not me, he threw the hook on his third jump. They are very exciting fish to fight with. I guess I will have to try Bonefish in the future sometime.

While I was there I went to a very large tackle store. They had one of Hemingway's boats in the center of the store and a massive fish tank with the local fish, including Tarpon, swimming around in it. They also had many collectable reels in their display cases, not for sale though.

Anyways, the Keys is a great place. Can you believe the price of real estate there? Everything was over a million bucks. It is a great place to dream about.

And here in New York it is still raining...

SOLUTION TO THE MYSTERY OF THE STRIPPER KING 333 !!!!!!!!

Post by m3040c »

We all had a good lively discussion on this reel, Stripper King 333, but we never really figured out what it was. Well, it is a mystery no more! Go to the link on Ebay and see the dead ringer. I thought I was seeing double.
By the way, the only bid on the item is mine and I do not care about the condition. Funny thing is, the seller is only a few miles from where I live..Life is treasure hunt...

When I win this reel, notice how positive I am :? When I win this reel, I will take pictures of them together and post them here. Stripper King must be a trade reel for J.C. Higgin...

I do not want to start any trouble, but how come you guys did not know that :?:

Mike: I will step up and say that after looking at the pic of the reel in the auction, I think you definitely have the inside track on winning :D a half hour bath in 1:4 vinegar might be a good starting point on this one! Looks like about three dozen penns I've (partially) rescued over the years!

Hello John,

Post by m3040c »

Normally I would not buy any reel that was this far gone unless it was a milestone product. This particular reel has answered a question for me, so I want to clean it best I can and display it with the Stripper King 333. The only difference between the reels is the company logo on the side plate, the Stripper King even has the same letter "B" stamped on the bottom of the foot. To me it is an interesting talking piece.

I just knew someone would understand why I was so positive I would win that reel. :) Thank you for the cleaning advice, I was not sure exactly how to start. I will start with the vinegar and see if the sandblaster is necessary after that.

Thanks for the reply,
Mike
