I cast my vote for a studio shot too... the amount of time the exsposure took back in the days glass and tin plate photography required NO movement of the subject. Often braces were used to keep folks still for the shot. SO imho the waves in the background could not have been captured "live" as they would be just a blurrrrrr breaking behind the gent and his fish. These look very painted (though maybe to represent a local landmark) to me... I can't see too well but is that a decorative border at the bottom of the waves? I have seen similar shots with stuffed and mounted deer heads and assorted other animal mounts taken inside a studio with "hunters" posed with guns, etc.

What's wrong with you guys ? Don't you know a "Giant Italian Grouper Bass" when you see one. :shock: This large fish used to swim around the Coney Island Pier in the early 1900's. All the large ones were fished out by Italian Immagrants during the Depression (hence the name, Italian Grouper Bass) and now only small ones remain. Because of the political incorrectness of the name, today we call this fish a "Killie". :twisted:
