lol, i will take the parrots at the drop of a hat!

Well, you may have noticed I have taken it off ebay. It will be going to auction on 19 November 2006 in Ludlow Shropsire, under auctioneers Mullock Madeley.

I have been given a rough reserve, and they have buyers interested in Australia and China who have put in requests previously when they get one of these reels.

Thanks for all your information and help, and I will of course keep you informed of the progress of the auction, which I will watch on line as it is too far away from us to go to.

thanks guys

sharon :D

Is it just me or does something sound fishy here. If I put something on E-bay and am shocked at the outside offers and the price that it is being ran up to, why would I want to take a chance on a private auction house to sell it? Also, that is one major flaw in my opnion about E-bay. Once you list an item, you should be required to let the auction run thru. It is like sticking a needle in your eye. If you don't think you will like the outcome, don't do it. If I were god,and you pulled an auction after someone had bid on your item, I would ban you from selling on there again. My two worse peeves are private bidders and pulled auctions. I now wonder if the first auction wasn't as fishy as the second.

i didnt know what i had until i put it on ebay. i would no way have made what i can get at private auction through ebay... the offers were lower than the reserve that is going to be put on at auction.

i emailed all the bidders and have had thanks back, not one single negative response, some are going to go to the auction, and some are going to watch on line. they have been very understanding.

i would have kicked my self had i sold it for say 1000 pounds only to see it sold at auction six months down the line for 10 times that.

im skint (thats broke btw), and i couldnt give two hoots about the watchers and so on. if they had bidded, i could e-mail them, if they havent that is their hard luck. its been done to me so what comes around goes around so to say.

what i get from this reel will clear our debts. there will be no fancy holidays, no new cars etc, just paying off what we owe, thanks to my father in law for keeping this reel in his junk. it will get us out of a bit of a hole.

i have been honest with all the bidders and explained the situation. i should have researched it first, but thats just not the way it went on this occasion. i always use ebay as my first port of call... when nothing came up under a search for ustonson, i thought it was worth nothing, hence why i started it at £4.99!

how little did i know? but thank heavens for the internet and the many kind people who have mailed me through here and other sites telling me exactly how it is, and not trying to make a fast buck out of me.

im just a little dumn blond essex girl, and a few thought i had the brain to match... im just glad i aint lol!

why?
:o

read my feedback on ebay, look in my photobucket... i reveal far too much if anything about my self on the net if anything and am always being chastised for it... watch the live auction on 19 november... the reel will be there!

okay, from another angle (god there are so many puns on this site!), i can see how it would look a little fishy (!), but look at the timings... when i listed it, when the first bids came in etc... thats when my fingers went mad on google and i found myself here... then along came all the e-mails (have to say 90% were most helpful).

this has to be the most expensive item i have ever had the pleasure to sell (i only sell our own stuff... i aint no dealer btw), and i was blown away

i dont really know what else to say other than i today met with John Mulluck, and can confirm he is 100% real and im sure he can confirm im 100% real (well, most of the time lol!) and im sure he will confirm the reel is real, and when the catalogue comes out it will be in there.

hey ho 8)

Nah, I don't think so Harv. I don't think you could make this stuff up (especially the photobucket stuff)! Seriously though, Sharon, you might not want to keep the link to the rest of your photos up here.

It did occur to me that someone in China, or wherever, might be watching this board for potential lucrative copy cat auctions. I don't see how else someone would want to fake an auction without seeing the end result where the big $$$ get shelled out. Most other copy cat auctions in the past have appeared at least a day or two after something has ended.

i did once have my ebay account hacked.somebody (probably in an internet cafe in ghana) attempted to sell a honda bike under my user name so it had 100% feedback and everything... and i could not access ebay as they changed my passwords and everything.

they did it by changing my pop settings on my e-mail... so my inbox was going elsewhere, and they then went through the process of changing my ebay password and getting the notification in my inbox.

lucky enough im a member of a parrot site (exactly like this one, but different subject), and i got in touch with a few members who contacted and reported it to ebay.

i now change all my passwords monthly to ensure this never happens again.

ive been scammed, and am not in the market for being a scammer. just thought it would be nice to share an item that would be of interest to some of you that i knew feck all about, and thats it! :D

i know i really dont have to prove myself for any particular reason, but to avoid being suspected you can read all about my boring little life on myspace:

www.myspace.com/sharongooner

my pictures are always public, ive nothing to hide and nothing to fear from that, but thanks for the concern.

there really aint much that can be gained from access to my photobucket, and most of us over here on particular sites use them and make them public, and ive never yet heard of a problem.

oh, and the picture of me and hubby on myspace was when England were still in the world cup ha ha! :D

Stefan: I do hope it sells for higher than that. We could run that photo in The Reel News (with a black bar across any offending parts, of course).

Sharon: I think I started this thread off in response to your posting and I've enjoyed it immensely. I've learned new Brit-speak and I've enjoyed the back and forth from reel collectors and you about this neat reel of yours. Good luck with your auction and please keep us posted on the final sale price.

Yes, I thought it was entertaining also and don't forget to post a link to the auction when it is up and running.

i have enjoyed it immensly... ive not been to bed before 3am for three nights since i advertised this reel, and im more than pleased to share it with you all.

and its been nice reading all your posts and i totally understand the cynicalism that comes in sometimes... the parrot site i belong to often gets people coming on saying they have a hyacynth macaw that needs a good home... not only are these birds a protected species but they cost upwards from 30,000 quid! so they are people on a wind up ie. join a site and get loads of responses and nothing comes of it and meanwhile everybody has fallen for it. thats why i have been careful to be as truthful with you all as fishing and all thats connected is your lots passion and i know to respect that.

you never know, i may stick around after the sale just to join in the gossip lol!

thanks for making me welcome... now i must really go to bed or the bags under my eyes will be hitting the floor before long and i wont live to see this auction lol!

take care all, na nite from england xx

Can't we give that reel a bath? It's like an itch that needs scratching! Driving me crazy! Don't want to highly polish it...but couldn't we rid it of a couple layers so we can see some details? Shannon...when you are well-rested, pls post some good pics here (or get us to do it) so we can better see what you got!

Funny you should say that John, we mentioned to John Mulluck that we really wanted to clean it and he said, in no uncertain terms... DONT! They will clean it before submitting the photo in the catalogue.

As soon as the catalogue is out (submissions for the auction close on Monday, so should not be long) I will hopefully be able to either provide an on line link to it, or scan the page. Im wondering if it will actually be on lin, as you have to pay for the catalogue, but im sure as I will get a copy im not breaking any rules by showing it...

I had the best sleep ever last night, feel really releived that we have done the right thing and just have to be patient for 9 weeks... heck!

Ive also had a few more good luck messages from people on ebay, another is goin to the auction to have a go, so im really pleased with that. I was wondering what sort of reaction I would get, but I think I did the right thing notifying them all.

Gee ...I hate to make a serious post when we were all having so much fun, but, I would have sold the reel on eBay.

Only savvy buyers attend M&M auctions. They know what the reel is worth (I agree with Stefan's assessment) and won't overpay.

On the other hand, there is a wealth of uneducated and uninformed buyers on eBay that routinely pay WAY too much for things simply because they haven't a clue what they are doing. eBay puts your reel in front of all of these, um, suckers ...at the M&M auction the audience will be much smarter and far smaller.

Just my 2-cents ...and worth half what you paid.

Dean,
You make an interesting observation about the unwashed (and often uneducated) masses on eBay. Although Sharon has pulled the reel off the auction site and is probably dining on some bangers and mash right about now (wait, that's Irish... maybe fish and chips instead?), I think a half dozen really good photos of the reel reposted on eBay with no restrictions on where the bidders come from would have driven 'em wild. Oh well. Between your 2 cents and my 2 cents we don't even offer up a nickel's worth of advice.
Cheerio.

im gonna stick with me auction... purely as i have let fate lead the way really. it was fate that mr mulluck was in my area yesterday, it was fate that i wrote out 30dealers numbers to ring, and fate that... well, just fate really.

im gonna go with what has happened so far. i aint got no worries about the auction and as i have previously said (sorry if im repeating myself here), all the buyers i emailed have responded positively and will either be attending the auction, or bidding be telephone/on-line.

so everybody who would be interested in this item will get to hear about it so it will be available to them... just the same as ebay.

reverse what you said reelsmith and look at it from the opposite angle... it would work both ways... the fishing circle is huge, i know a few myself, and they dont have access to the internet, but could attend an auction by jumping in the car.

i hope that i can get loads of interest before hand through the media of the internet. ive already got 20 people who want to come round mine for a beer and to watch the auction on line... how gutted will i be if it doesnt sell lol! i aint bothered. if it dont sell i get it back and i can go elsewhere and i aint lost a penny.

lets watch the space so they say!

Well here is my sixpence worth.

Sharon I'm an ABU fan now to most people on this board they will be thinking of a Swedish reel maker ABU, but you know its Anyone But United. For the majority of the people on this board that is Manchester United the team bought by the Glaziers. Also known as Manure, also Imp not a Spuds fan or Chelski, I am in fact a fan of the team than helped start the gooners and have something the gooners don’t. Two European Cups, back to back.
I know John Mullock he’s a personal friend but as far as I am aware they have no Chinese reel collectors on the books. He does have Japanese plus lots from others countries.
I have to agree with reelsmiths post it’s a specialist auction that will attract only tackle collectors. In addition to the items in the auction there will be a tackle fair with collector/dealers/dabbles having items for sale on the tables. You will see reels for sale in excess of the prices that yours will bring. You might even see an Ustonson reel for sale in one of the cabinets.
I also agree with Richard and personally think that it would have done better on eBay. Some guy sitting in Lower Bavaria who only has GT’s book and believes everything in it will go auction crazy, couple that with a similar situation anywhere else in the world and you have a winner.
Anyway as I will be at the auction I will post some pictures As editor of the ATO I get notice of what is in the auction and will follow this up for the Reel News.

my hubby is chelsea, our boys are chelsea, we communually hate man u and spurs... and at the mo liverpool are creeping fast up the list of hated teams lol!

so... reveal who you support... not who you hate :P

then you can have a glass of my wine :D and tell me all about john M lol! (nice guy btw, really liked him)

do you know john stephenson (or stevenson)... he is calling me on monday to discuss the auction after viewing the reel as he has not seen it yet :)
