Brian...that little add is incredible! You should start a new thread just on that gaff...it's buried here! Man, I like to fish...but if I had to work that hard, I don't know if I could get off the couch to go out! Would love to see a video of that action in action. In fact, I would enjoy seeing a complete article on Hawaiian surf fishing..equipment, methods, pictorial...how 'bout it?!

Hello out there Brian:
What a wonderful post! And that gaff hook is really neat. You folks are sure inventive when it comes to hauling in those monsters.
Within a few blocks walk from our home in San Francisco, my dad would sometimes climb down the rocks near Sea Cliff...just west of the Golden Gate bridge, and cast for stripers. He caught some nice ones on occasion, up to 35 lbs. He used a gaff hook with a long wood handle to land them. And by the way, he used either the Pflueger 1968 Ohio, or the Ocean City 112...both 250 yard versions at that time.
When I was old enough to fish near there, Pop told me that where he fished was off limits for me...too dangerous, so instead I fished from higher up on the cliffs, and caught some darned good size rubber lip pearch and rock cod. Nothing like those big guys you go after, but still lots of fun for a young fisherman.
Thanks for all you do to keep Reel Talk running...and thanks to all of your helpers too!
Jim
