Odds and Ends in my collections

Post by Zbeast2009 »

So besides collecting fishing flies which I have a lot of and would love to buy more if you have any laying around. ;) Would love to find some more leather or rubber ones and more hummingbirds (one I have was a local that was just messing around)..
I have a collection of odds and ends in a nice display that a buddy made me. In it I have different types of shotgun shells like vintage paper ones and a special edition Dale Jr. Racing one unshot. Along with shells, I have different tags. I really like older dog tags (not military, but pet dogs) and I have a few ranging from 1930's till recent and a 1960's deer tag.
The one I cannot figure out though is a tag I got from a local antique/junk store. It is a red tag and says "World Wide WOLF License - For Members Of The Armed Forces Only." Here's a picture of my case though.

My collections go on and on though. Anybody else collect anything besides reels/lures?

I had started collecting minnow buckets, but now I'm just doing bait containers like older cricket boxes and the older worm boxes.

What kind of spears do you collect?

any that I think are cool and I can afford. Most are large, 5 or 6 tines. I do have some small three tine frog spears too.

old newsboy badges or licenses. Many city councils and/or school departments used to issue licenses to newsboys and assign them to specific street corners to prevent fights and unfair competition. These can date from the late 1800s up into the 1960s.

I also collect fishing books (Dana Lamb, Gierach, Reuben Cross, anything by Bill Tapply...); duck decoys (funky mergansers, carvings by Steve Morey, a Tuckerton, N.J., carver) and old reels.

Red wolf tag

Post by tlarsen »

I have seen 2 variations of these tags/licenses. They were 'issued' to human wolves for 'hunting' women and have nothing to do with the canine wolf. A novelty item from WWII I believe. I think Jeff Savage of Drexel Grapevine Antiques has one pictured on his site http://www.drexelantiques.com/license.html "I had thought these were issued to hunt or trap wolf for military cold weather clothes during WW II. I have since been told they were a joke during WW II for service men who were known skirt chasers, or wolves. a license to wolf whistle? Composition 1 1/2 inch."
