Would loke to see more of your Daiwas. This one I got for a $1 and I got a 210lr that was my dad's. I had a ss1500 a couple years ago it was a good reel. Image

Does anyone know when the Millionaire was introduced? I believe the 4H and 5H were first (sometime in the early 1970s), followed by the 3H and later the 6H.

I believe it was 1973 with the Millionaire V. It was green and came in a plastic box with all the accessories. I've got a couple like that along with about 15 other versions.

Len Borgstrom's book ABU AND GARCIA, WHAT HAPPENED? has a terrific story about ABU suing Daiwa over patent violations from the original Millionaire. He came to a meeting with the Daiwa lawyers with a totally disassembled Millionaire and a similar Ambassadeur; dumped all the parts on a table and stirred them up. He then proceeded to make two perfectly functioning reels with the mixed parts. The lawyers walked out of the room and Daiwa changed the design of the Millionaire (a bit anyway).

I got carried away and forgot the rest of your question. My research shows the following order: V (green), 5H (brown), 5B (gold), 6H (brown), 6B (gold), 3H (blue), 3R (red), 4H (blue)... and so on. Daiwa is famous for introducing new reels every few years, even if it was only a new color, or a minor part and color.

Todd: I did further checking in my records. Millionaires came out as follows:
1973 - V - Green
1973 - V - Black
1975 - 5H - Brown
1975 - 5B - Gold
1975 - 6H - Brown
1975 - 6B - Gold

all the above came in plastic boxes, and below in CB boxes

1976 - 3H - Blue

I have no 1978 catalog, so below might have come out then, but...

1979 - 3R - Red
1979 - 4H - Blue
1979 - 5 HS - Brown
1979 - 6 HS - Brown.

and on and on and on

Dr. Todd, this fellows Millionaire website doesn't have the dates down as well as Geezers post, but he does have many nice photos of the various models and colors. Apparently, there was also a matching rod available at one point that's pretty scarce.

Shameless self-promotion?...well, probably...but would rather see it stay in the family...if any of you Daiwanians were interested in that Procaster posted upstream, it will likely go cheap:

This is a beautiful reel. My grandfather gave it to me as a child. Always been under glass. Thought I would share and maybe get opinions and thoughts.

My favorite Daiwa is this. I know I am a bit bias, but it is what it is.
