Help, I am trying to find some information for a friend of mine. He has this Shakespeare 1898 ec reel and I can not find it in any of my books. Interested in the vintage, value, use, etc. It is a big fly type reel. This is the first time I have posted on this site not sure how to do pics but can send email pics. Try this.

It was in the catalogues fron 1967 to 1977. It was called the "Purist". There is no price in the anglers catalogue so I can't tell you what it cost new. I have seen them on E-bay anywhere from $35.00 to $75.00 depending on condition and who wanted or needed it.
